As is customary on our final club meeting of the year, we held our Christmas Blitz competition. This year, as last, was to be a double round robin with an entry fee of £1 – winner take all. The time control was, a blistering, 3 minutes with 2 seconds increment per move.
It soon became clear that, in order to avoid running out of time, everyone had to accept the occasional blunder, which only really mattered if your opponent noticed it. Everyone that is, except Alice, who didn’t seem to make any blunders and exploited her opponents’ every mistake.
Unsurprisingly, Alice won, having dropped only half a point when Eggert managed to draw. Dave Siddall came second, a full 3 points behind Alice, with Eggert and Andy in joint third.
Congratulations Alice and a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all our club mates and Mike and Anna at the Crown.
