Penrith A faced Maryport B in their final match of the season at the Crown. If we won then no other team could catch us. Maryport A, our nearest rivals, were playing Carlisle A at the same time at Carlisle and were, no doubt, hoping that their B team could pull off a win against us.
Unfortunately for Maryport, that didn’t happen. Although Maryport B didn’t make it easy, our A team won the match by 3½ – ½.
As I was in Spain at the time, I don’t have many details other than all boards were very close.
Our A team have won the league for the third year running. Unfortunately, we didn’t manage the double but there’s always next season.
The League table is below with any points gained or lost against Barrow, who have withdrawn from the league, deducted.
